Two weeks of Tiger!

Last week was when I first attended a Tiger Scout meeting. In Thailand, Scouts is a school class. At our school Scout Day is Thursday. Everyone wears their uniforms to school! Students meet with other classes of their grade throughout the day for Scout meetings. In Primary 2 there are 6 classes. (Approximately 180 students, that make up our Tiger Pack!)

The first week we did fun relays in the gym. This week was more serious. We had a flag ceremony and sang the Thai national anthem. Then we said a prayer in Sanskrit. After that we got into our colour groups (patrols) and played the game Telephone. It was a lot of fun!

My Tiger Scouts are asking a lot about scouting in Canada. I have decided for my English class on Thursday we will do a Scout theme and learn about Scouts in Canada!

Tiger Scouts making a craft during my Science class!
We are learning about the Water Cycle!

I am not sure if we have Tiger Scouts next week because exams are coming up. If we do it will be the last meeting before October Vacation! Then Tiger Scouts will start up again in November!

A Little History

I don't have a lot of photos here in Thailand with me, but I thought it might be fun for you to know about me in Scouting in Canada. I was a Girl Guide for many years, but then I joined Scouting for Venturers. We did lots of camping and hiking and I earned my Queen's Venturer Award.

Here I am at a very cold winter camp in Venturers! It was -26 degrees Celsius! Brrr!

I also visited Japan when I was in Venturers and was able to go to a Girl Scout camp there! I met lots of Boy Scouts hiking Mt. Taeko and gave them Scout badges. They gave me a hat from their group!

Me in my Venturer Uniform at a Japanese Girl Scout Camp!

I became a Beaver Leader so I could get my Wood Badge leadership training for my Queens Venturer Award. I loved it so much that I decided I would study to become a teacher!

My grade 5 and 6 students on Scout Day in Thailand!

Pictures blurred to protect student identity.

As part of my teacher training I taught a grade 5/6 class in Thailand for 2 months. It was then that I discovered Scouting in Thailand. Later I accepted a job teaching P2 in Thailand and became involved with the Tiger Scouts here!

My little Tiger Scouts! Working on letters to their penpals!

My other Tiger Scouts, cleaning up at the end of the day!

I look forward to sharing more with you soon!

Welcome to Tiger! Tiger!

Hi,

I am Rainbow! I used to be a Beaver Leader in Canada. When I finished University I found a job teaching at a school in Thailand. I learned that in Thailand the word for Scouts means "Tiger" in the Thai language. I am just teaching my students that the English word is "Scout" and so I call them Tiger Scouts. When it is time for our Tiger Scout meeting I shout "Tiger! Tiger!" My students point to their scout crest on their uniform and say, "Tiger?"

"Yes, time for Tiger! Let's go!"

We are now joining up with a Canadian Cub Pack for what will hopefully be a great penpal experience! Very soon I will post more about our adventures. I hope you come back and learn more about Scouting in Canada and in Thailand!

See you soon,

Rainbow
